Introduction

Firemaster FireFelt 607 is a felt manufactured from alkaline earth silicate fibres and a binder system that produces a resilient product form across a wide range of densities.

Firemaster FireFelt 607 offers the key fire protection properties of Firemaster 607 fibre in a product giving different physical properties depending on density selected. Thus designers can achieve a better match of product to satisfy application requirements.

Low density FireFelt 607 offers a flexible product which is compressible yet resilient but still highly insulating. This offers a key advantage in weight critical applications such as high-speed craft fire protection. In these areas, FireFelt 607 offers lower product densities than alternative materials but without the risk of loss of physical integrity or insulation performance in a fire.

Higher density FireFelt 607 offers a semi-rigid board with higher tensile and compressive strength.

Advantages:

  • Highly insulating, fire protection performance is achieved with low thickness and hence minimal weight.
  • Can be compressed to form high integrity joints in a fire.
  • Easy to cut and handle, can be die-cut with ease
  • Can be glued to substrates such as steel making it ideal for incorporating into panels
  • Choice of eight densities and seven thickness’ which allows designers flexibility in product choice to match application requirements.

Health Aspects Summary

Firemaster 607 was designed for enhanced solubility in lung tissues. Rats have been exposed 6 hours a day, 5 days a week during 2 years at an average concentration of 200 F/ml (about 200 to 300 times higher than the concentration found in production plants) without showing any significant increase in lung tumours or fibrosis.

Fire Protection Performance

Non Combustible to IMO resolution A472 (12)

(48kg/m3 density product)

FireFelt 607 has been tested in fire protection systems that satisfy A60 classification to IMO resolution A754 (18) for aluminium bulkhead and deck fire protection.
